Hello!
I'm new here! My name is Irina. I have a ca de bou - Odysseus R.J. Osanna (born 05 July 2006, Ikar Chevalier Osanna x Viva Des Gardes Du Closs Masure). Right now he is 14 months old. He is already European Junior Winner 2007 and Best of Breed at Euro Dog Show 2007 (Zagreb, Croatia). He is also Ukraine Junior Champion, Croatia Junior Champion, Bulgaria Junior Champion (and Junior Grand Champion), Macedonia Junior Champion, Romania Junior Champion, Junior Champion of Balcan Countries, and Junior Champion of Dac Moloss Club of Romania.
I understand German language a bit and what I read in this theme were complaints about ca de bou behavior. As a ca de bou owner (and a person who saw many ca de bous) I would like to add something:
To my opinion, all behavioral problems in dogs usually come from their owners. We have a proverb: "If a dog bites, it's not the dog, it's the owner".
I've seen many dogs from little to large breeds that were behaving agressively. I strongly belive that such behavior doesn't depend on the breed. Of course, some dogs are trained easily, some need more attention. But I believe that with persistance and correct approach any dog can be a good family friend with adequate attitude towards other people and dogs.
Before ca de bou I had two rottweiler males. I can say, that none of my dogs has ever bitten a human or killed another dog. Ca De Bou as well as a rottweiler is not a breed for an amator. They need constant training during first years of their life. But I don't see a problem with that - if a person decides to have a dog at their home they are supposed to love dogs. If you love dogs - it would be a pleasure for you to work with them and to spend your time with them. Don't lie to yourself when you buy a dog. Think with clear mind - do you really LOVE dogs? Or is it just a moment of desire to have one?
Personally, every time I go for a walk with my Ca De Bou we do a little obedience training and show training. That doesn't take much time. 15 minutes per walk is ok. A dog is happy because you have devoted your attention to her and you are happy too, because she obeys you.
When we go in the show ring at a dog show my dog happily accepts expert's touching and looking at the teeth.
Of course, my males had some dogs that they enjoyed playing with and some that not. But that's a normal flow of things in nature just as humans may dislike each other. But my dogs were able to pass by calmly even when other dogs were barking at them. It was because they knew that nothing is so important as the owner. If the owner says "No" it means "No".
